Star who competed on ITV series reveals she ‘vomited for 24 hours’ in horrifying incident

I’m A Celebrity star Shaparak Khorsandi has revealed she was left vomiting for 24 hours in camp after hearing about a vile challenge from her co-stars.
The comedian, 51, appeared on the ITV competition in 2017, which saw Georgia Toffolo crowned Queen of the Jungle.
Shaparak, who was previously known as Shappi before changing to her full name, became the first campmate eliminated on day 13.
However, for a full day of filming she was forced to miss out after a vile trial, which she didn’t even take part in herself.
Recalling her reality stint, she explained: ‘On I’m A Celebrity, a couple of the people did some eating thing, they had to eat a plant that was so disgusting that it tasted of vomit.
‘Their description when they came back to the camp made me vomit for 24 hours.
‘For 24 hours I could not be in the programme, I was just being sick the whole time.’
Speaking on Kathy Burke’s Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake podcast, Shaparak went on to reveal a ‘secret’ about her inclusion in challenges, saying she became a vegan six months before going into the jungle.
‘I said to them, “I’m a vegan,” I didn’t lie! I did become a vegan, I was a practicing vegan, it’s a bit like when people send their kids to a faith school, they did attend church for a couple of years,’ she said.
‘So I was exempt from all the eating stuff, under moral grounds, it’s minging!’
Shaparak, who was in the jungle with the likes of Rebekah Vardy, Amir Khan and Stanley Johnson, previously said she was ‘really, really physically sick’ after eating meat.
She explained shortly after her elimination in 2017 that ITV bosses accommodated for her, saying: ‘I had meat and I was really, really physically sick, five times in one hour.
‘It was horrible and then after that I asked for vegan food and they were very accommodating, it was fine.’
She later spoke about how she thought her stint on the show was ‘a bit sad’.
‘It was just all a bit sad,’ she said on Jay Rayner’s Out To Lunch podcast. ‘It felt like school again where, you know, I’m not one of the sporty ones. I’m not one of the pretty girls. And so I’m just a log.
‘I might as well have been one of the logs for them.’
The mother-of-two pressed: ‘But I did get to jump out of a helicopter and swim in a lake, I got to abseil. But what was really interesting about I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! It properly showed me what it’s like to have ITV fame, like, tabloid fame.
‘It showed me what needs to happen. I knew that when I went in there to stay on the show, I needed to create some kind of drama. I had a mantra, I refused to argue with anyone, not even Rebekah Vardy.
‘And also, what the programme did for me, it gave me such a deep and renewed love for stand up comedy and the industry I work in, It took away all my career anxieties, it showed me that the other side was ghastly.’
I’m A Celebrity is available to watch on ITVX.
