Isabella Lovestory Wins Big on ‘Puchica’

Isabella Lovestory has always had a way with words, and on “Puchica,” she definitely doesn’t mince them. The title of her new single is Honduran slang for the word, “Damn,” and also, she says, a chic replacement for “puta.” “I say it a million times a day for any reason whatsoever,” she says. “‘Puchica’ is ‘puta’s’ naughty younger sister, carefree, lucky and wants everyone to see her with makeup still intact at sunrise.”

In the self-directed, self-edited music video, premiering today on PAPER, Lovestory twerks out the window of a limousine. She coddles two kittens, poses in front of car headlights looking like a sexy little red riding hood, and performs for sold-out crowds in Latin America. Always the rebellious and free spirit, Lovestory explains that the song is, naturally, about winning the lottery for “pussy of the day” and then explaining, “Puchica,” once trying it.

“I wanted this video to look as chaotic as it feels when you absolutely have to express, ‘Puchica,'” she says. “Capturing the chaotic technicolor medley that is my life. No rules just love.”

Produced by Chicken and Kamixlo, the track follows singles like “VIP” and “Botoxxx” released earlier this year, and is another maximalist reggaeton-infused number that signals a more complete body of work to come. Since her debut album, 2022’s Amor Hardcore, Lovestory has proven her star power by establishing her own lane of flirtatious and unapologetic neoperreo pop, and garnered a devoted legion of diehards across the globe. She’s even shown her versatility and agility by writing on “ANTIFRAGILE” for k-pop girl group LE SSERAFIM.

With “Puchica,” it only becomes more and more clear that there’s no stopping Lovestory from conquering anything she sees ahead of her, and getting us all to come along with her for the wild ride.
